The stage is set for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2023, as the shortlist of candidates has been unveiled!

The contenders are as follows:

  • Stuart Broad (Cricket)
  • Frankie Dettori (Horse Racing)
  • Mary Earps (Football)
  • Alfie Hewett (Wheelchair Tennis)
  • Katarina Johnson-Thompson (Athletics)
  • Rory McIlroy (Golf)

For seven decades, the public has crowned its sporting heroes, and this year is no different. These exceptional athletes will vie for the publics votes on Tuesday December 19th’s live show.

Tune in to BBC One and iPlayer at 7pm for an exhilarating retrospective of the year’s sporting triumphs, broadcasted live from Media City, Salford. Join presenters Clare Balding, Gary Lineker, Gabby Logan, and Alex Scott as they relive all the action-packed sporting moments 2023 has brought us.

Last year’s title was claimed by Lioness hero Beth Mead, with Ben Stokes and Eve Muirhead securing second and third places. Which Beg’s the question, could we see back-to-back Lioness winners? With Lioness Goalkeeper Mary Earps tipped as being the favourite to take home the trophy.
